Chamber in Review
We meet each Thursday at a local restaurant for our Chamber no-host lunches. We often include guest speakers, and always include getting caught up on the news of what’s happening in the business community in the Grand Coulee area. This Thursday, October 24, we’ll be at La Presa Restaurant at noon and our guest speaker will be Launi Ritter from Coulee Wall Variety Store. Launi will educating us on all the things the Variety Store has to offer.
Local Clubs & Business Meetings scheduled for the week of 10/23 – 10/30
- Grant County Port District #7 changed their October meeting date from 10/24 to 10/22. They will NOT meet at their regular time, which would have been on Thursday, October 24th.
- Coulee Dam will NOT hold their regularly scheduled town council meeting on Wednesday, 10/23. The next time they’ll meet is on Wednesday, November 13 at 6:00pm.
- Grant County Fire District #14 is scheduled to have their monthly meeting at Electric City Fire Hall on Monday, 10/28. The meeting will be held at 7:00 pm unless fire personnel are needed elsewhere.
- The School District will be holding their school board meeting on Monday, 10/28, in the library at Lake Roosevelt School in Coulee Dam. The meeting starts at 5:30 pm.
Hospital District #6 will hold their monthly Commissioner’s Meeting on Monday, 10/28, at Coulee Medical Center. The meeting starts at 6:00 pm.
The Okanogan County Tourism Council is developing a county-wide Tourism Destination Master Plan. As part of the planning process, the project team will be holding workshop sessions with the public and stakeholders throughout Okanogan County to gather input on:
- Key tourism assets throughout the county and characteristics of these assets.
- Existing issues and problems within the current tourism network that need to be addressed by the plan.
- Strategies, ideas, and opportunities that could be explored in the plan.
The team will be in our area tomorrow, Thursday, October 24, 2019, 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Senior Center (203 Main Street, Grand Coulee). If you, or your business, relies on tourism, this is a meeting you should attend.
Have you got your tickets yet for PK’s Culinary Harvest Wine Dinner? Experience a delicious 4-course gourmet meal cooked by Executive Chef Patty Davis. Each course will be paired with different wines and served in an intimate group setting. Tickets are available for Friday, October 25th and Saturday, October 26th and can be purchased at The Wine Bar on Main Street in Grand Coulee. Full Circle Acres is knee-deep into pumpkin season and you’ve got just one more day to come and get the perfect pumpkin for you. They’ll be open one last time on Saturday, October 26th. They’re located at 34258 Old Coulee Rd in Almira (three miles north of Almira). Come out and get just the pumpkin you’re looking for for your Halloween decorations!
As the weather cools, North Cascades Bank once again kicks off their annual Coats for Kids drive. Through the month of October, drop off a new or gently used coat at their Grand Coulee location. Don’t have a coat to donate? They’ll happily accept cash donations that will be used to purchase cold weather clothing for kids in need. Thanks North Cascades Bank for helping out our local kids.
The Electric City Bar & Grill will be holding their annual Halloween Costume Party this coming Saturday, October 26. There will be karaoke, hors d’oeuvres, costume prizes and much more. Come see if you can recognize your friends and neighbors when they’re all decked out in their Halloween finest.
The Keller Community Center is hosting the Keller Community Halloween Carnival on Saturday, October 26th, staring at 5:00pm. There will be a costume contest with prizes, a carnival, bingo, pie eating contest, including a little kids pie eating contest for kids in 3rd grade and lower, a carved pumpkin contest, and much more. The Grand Coulee Eagles are having Octoberfest at their lodge on Saturday, October 26th from 2:00pm until 2:00am. Come join in the fun with door prizes drawn every 30 minutes during the day, and a German cake contest. There will also be a potluck German dinner served at 6:00pm and karaoke starting at 8:00pm. Bring your stein and fill it up for just $1.
The LR Athletic Booster Club will be holding a fundraising Chili cookoff on Saturday, November 2nd at the American Legion Post in Electric City. They are looking for chili cookers/chefs to help with the event. Do you make a mean pot of chili? If so, they need YOU. Char Hania is coordinating those willing to help. Sacred Heart Mission in Nespelem is holding a Rummage and Bake Sale on Saturday, November 2, from 9:00am until 3:00pm. They will be accepting gently used rummage items after October 28th. For more information, contact Nancy at 634.4695 or Jackie at 634.2635.
On Friday, November 8th the Wine Bar and PK’s Culinary are teaming up to offer a fun night of Sipping and Snacking. Chef Patty from PK’s Culinary will create a menu of 4 small plates to pair with 4 wines that The Wine Guys choose. Featured wines will be wines that are normally only available by the bottle. Sounds like a fun evening and no reservations are needed.
